Le Grand Tour de la Manche a la voile

In 2024 we will be sailing the Snark around the English Channel visiting beautiful ports and exploring the widely varying and historic coastlines of England and France. As well as sampling the best food and wine they have to offer!

The itinerary and dates below are provisional, a final version will be posted in early September when bookings open.

1 07-15/06/24

Topsham to Eastbourne

We start at Topsham near Exeter and sail close to the Jurassic Coast via Lyme Regis and Weymouth to Poole Harbour. From here we head through the Solent stopping at Cowes then on to Littlehampton or Shoreham before rounding Beachy Head to finish at Eastbourne

2 20-29/06/24

Eastbourne to Caen

From Eastbourne we head towards Dungeness before crossing the shipping lanes to Boulogne and the Pas de Calais. After stopping off at the pretty seaside holiday resorts of Le Touquet, Fecamp and Honfleur we will head up the canal to the ancient Norman city of Caen.

There is a ferry from here to Portsmouth.

3 04 -12/07/24

Caen to St. Peter Port

The first part of this leg takes us along the D-Day Normandy beaches before we head north around the Cherbourg peninsular to the Channel Islands; visiting Alderney and finishing up in Guernsey.

4 17-25/07/24

St Peter Port to Roscoff

Our Brittany leg starts with a stop at St Helier before heading south to the walled port of St Malo. From here we will weave through the islands and off lying rocks along the beautiful coast of North Brittany, via Lezardrieux to the port of Roscoff.

There is a ferry from here to Plymouth

5 30/07 - 06/08/24

Roscoff to Newlyn

This is the most challenging leg of the tour with a 100 mile sail across the Western Approaches from L'AberWrach to the Isles of Scilly . We will explore these beautiful islands before heading to Newlyn in Cornwall.

6 11-18/08/24

Newlyn to Topsham

We are back in home waters now, sailing around the Lizard to Falmouth and then along the coast stopping off in Fowey and Salcombe before rounding Start Point to head north across Start Bay and on up the coast to Exmouth and Topsham.

We will have completed just over 1000 nautical miles in the tour.
