Looking at our blogs of just three weeks ago makes me realise the speed at which the impact of the Covid-19 virus has hit us and many other small businesses in this part of the world. As well as new rules and regulations, uncertainty and personal anguish, we have a whole dictionary of new words entering or in some cases re-emerging into our vocabulary. We have a few favourites already;
Bubble buddies;
the person(s) or pet(s) you are holed up with at home all of the time. Hopefully a largely positive experience and time to get to know each other better; however that works for you.
But this is not always as welcome as it should be and reported incidents of domestic violence and abuse are on the rise. It's an important time not to turn a blind eye or deaf ear to what happens around you, ask if they are okay if you can, try to understand the signs and please report your suspicions to the local police or other agency. This is what they are there for.
Covidiot;
No real definition required here. We can all think of people this could be applied to from hoarders to party goers, incompetent politicians to self important officials. Who ever your personal covidiot is now may be the time to be kind, for some empathy. Why are they behaving like that? What fears, misunderstandings, misinterpretation or motivation is driving them and can you by action, argument or example redirect them? Of course it has to be said that some of them are just prats.
Cabin fever;
Mental instability or madness induced by long term isolation from society, the outside world, normal life; also see stir crazy. We are all going to experience this to one degree or another, social media will help and of course the right bubble buddy but so will dreaming and planning what special things you will do when you get out.
