Herring Coast

Embark at Ocean Terminal, Leith

6 sailing days - 260 Nm

Day 1: Boarding from 16.00 at the Britannia Pontoon, Leith, group introductions, safety briefing and evening meal on board. The following itinerary is provisional and may be changed to suit the weather and other factors.

Day 2: Sail across the Firth of Forth past the sea bird colony on Isle of May to Arbroath in search of the famous Smokies

Day 3: Carry the tide up the Scottish coast past castles and cliffs to the picturesque port of Stonehaven in time for a gentle walk along the cliffs to Dunnottar Castle before dinner on board and maybe a pint at the Ship.

Day 4: Another hop up the coast to the commercial fishing port of Peterhead and a chance to pick up some deep sea fish for the freezer.

Day 5: An early start to sail around Rattray Head into the Moray Firth and a chance to see the famous local dolphins. Moor up for the night in the snug harbour of Buckie or another of the Moray fishing harbours.

Day 6: We have allowed a spare day on this leg to explore the coast around the Moray Firth or to allow for a lay day if the weather is against us. This is the land of Whisky and Castles so a trip inshore might be in order.

Day 7: Leave Buckie after an early breakfast and sail along the Moray coast reaching our furthest point north off Covesea Lighthouse before starting the head south again, through the Narrows and under the Kessock Bridge and into the sea lock of the Caledonian Canal.

Last Day: Breakfast on board followed by goodbyes and disembarkation at Muirtown Marina, Inverness.
